As a coach, author, speaker and consultant, you want to make it easy for people to buy from you. In order to do that, you need to share your value, help people get results with your content so that you build credibility and make it easy for people to buy from you!

The sky’s the limit when it comes to content ideas for experts and consultants however, content that connects and converts is where we all want to be operating towards.

At the end of the day, you want to make it easy for your clients to work with you and buy from you! You want them to come to you and not chase them! Blogging can do that for you! It can help build trust, credibility and like-ability.

You also want to make it easy for yourself – so that you can minimize your efforts and maximize your results!

The first step is getting your content plan is a tip one of my favourite sales coaches, Laura Wright, has shared with me – get an IDEA JOURNAL!! As your ideas flow, put them in there, you can’t do everything right away, but if you still like these ideas a month, two months or a year later – keep ‘em!

Secondly, I always like to make sure content is relevant.

I look ahead at key dates and events that are happening around the time that my blog is going to go live. For example, if I was coaching people through sales marketing tips, I may start to help my audience leading up to Black Friday – one of the biggest online day shopping events of the year – and plan their content around that!

Picking events and special dates around your content is a great habit to get into. I often combine it with:

  • Internal company holidays & anniversaries, birthdays
  • Internal events, conferences you’ll be attending
  • External holiday calendar
  • Big sporting events – i.e. Superbowl
  • Fun dates that are relevant to your audience:
    • International Coffee Day (October 1, 2022)
    • International Author’s Day (November 1, 2022)
    • Small Business Saturday (November 26, 2022)
    • World Entrepreneurs Day (August 21, 2022)

I use sites like these below to find creative dates that I can plan my content around:

KEEPING THE ABOVE IN MIND, USE THESE 3 STRATEGIES TO PLAN YOUR CONTENT

STRATEGY 1: Create content that is service-based

Experts and Consultants have to set themselves apart from the rest, connect and build trust with their audience and one of the fastest ways to do that is to create service-based content that gives their followers an opportunity to implement and be impressed with the results!

Examples: Examples of a service-based event online includes things like a tip series, a webinar, masterclass, Q&A livestream, a challenge, a tutorial, a mini-course delivered live, speaking events and/or office hours hosted on your social media platform.

Benefit: Imagine getting results just from reading a free social media post, or a blog! Just imagine what results you could get working with this expert if you paid them! By giving your audience results, you are building credibility automatically with them. They will come back for more!

STRATEGY 2: IMPLEMENT CONTENT SERIES PLANNING TO TAKE YOUR VIEWERS ON A JOURNEY WITH YOU!

The act of combining service-based events with a series of content that takes viewers on a journey, entices them to come back for more and prepares them for what to expect is even better!

Creating a series of content can be as easy as giving your content a title, including the duration part of it into the title, (like 5 Days of…) and get specific about the solution, journey or problem you’re trying to solve or share with your viewers.

Examples: Series of content could be about posting blogs with a similar title but different results. A popular one is before/afters, tip series, personal challenge journey set to so many days, behind-the-scenes, makeovers, success stories, common mistakes series, rules, quotes, etc.

Benefit: The goal here is to categorize your content and to keep your readers clicking while at the same time, helping them get to know you, what you care about, who you are, and what you do.

People like to buy from those they know, like and trust. Series content helps you build this with your followers.

STRATEGY 3: Don’t guess! Use Google’s tools to figure out titles that stand out!

Google can share with you what are the popular searches around your keywords related to your business. To access this information, start right with the Google search page.

Step 1: A great way to figure out what people what to read about is to start typing into the Google search bar one of the keywords around your business…see what questions and phrases Google starts to auto-type around your keyword. This is showing you the top searches that Google is seeing around this topic.

Step 2: Click to see what pops up under this particular keyword search. Google will show you a section in the results called “People Also Ask” and will give you more ideas for your titles.

Step 3: Additionally, if you scroll down the results pages of your Google search, Google will show you “related searches” in the results of your search. This helps you understand what answers or solutions people are looking for when it comes to your keywords!

Step 4: Implement some of these keywords and phrases into not just your title, but into your content to help with your organic search visibility on Google and to verify that you’re not just creating click-bait. This will help your blog rankings with Google Search.

Examples:  Using the top search results, turn your title into a tip list, question or how-to guide. This will help reader expectations and encourage them to click through to find the solution in your post. If your topic was “reduce stress” then examples of tweaking your title would look like this:

  • 5 Ways to reduce stress
  • Want to reduce stress?
  • How-to reduce stress

Benefits: It’s all about making it easy for people and using their language. As experts, we often get bogged down in our language and forget that people don’t know what we know! When you eat, sleep, breathe your area of expertise, it can be difficult to get outside your world and use the language that your clients may be using to find you. Google is a great place to start to figure this out!
